USING NATURAL STONE IN YOUR GARDEN
Can paving stone and landscaping rock help your garden design?
There are many reasons why you might consider incorporating stone into the landscaping design of your garden. The main one however is for beauty, pure aesthetic beauty. For a landscaping design to look perfect it needs to have layers and this can be a hard thing to achieve without the use of stone.

You can use landscaping stone to accent certain portions of your garden and you can even plant within the stone. They look great round the patio or fence and you can use different types of stone to create a variety of colours within the garden to compliment your planting. These colours are especially nice to see in winter when everything can seem so bare. You can transform the whole look of your garden in simple landscaping with stone.
Use paving stone to take you from one part of the garden to another. This also serves to separate different parts of your garden and leads the eye from place to place. Paving slabs are an important part of any design.
Landscaping rock serves a different purpose. This can break up your beds or you could even have an area purely for stone, perhaps adjoining the patio and leading to your garden in order to create a transition.
A stone area is a place to plant your herb garden and if close to your patio, you will have wonderful scents wafting over the area. Practically speaking, this could be fairly close to the kitchen also!
If you take the time to bury your rock it will look much better. This will make them look natural and they will blend in and look as if this is where they really should be, not just where they got dropped down.
How far should you bury the stone in the ground? The depth will all depend upon the size and shape of the rock that you finally choose. A very large rock should be deeper than a smaller one. Four to six inches is a good average depth.
This is what rocks and boulders look like when you see them out in the wild! The next time that you are taking a walk, keep an eye out for any large rocks, look at how they sit in the ground and then try to get the same effect in your garden. You could even take some photos while you are out to help you remember how stone lies naturally.
