MAINTAINING YOUR PATIO
Outdoor surfaces need some occasional care. Maintaining your patio is important to keep it looking fresh and clean, we would suggest using the following methods:
- Keep your patio swept clean on a regular basis, this will prevent a build up of dirt in which algae, lichens and moss can become established.
- In early spring and late summer we recommend a deep clean using Lithofin MN Outdoor Cleaner. It is highly effective, self-acting, free of acids and biodegradable. Simply spray onto the surfaces, allow to work for 2 – 10 hours and rinse off with clean water. The time between application and rinsing will depend on the degree of staining. Instructions on the can must be followed carefully as the product contains chlorides (bleach).
It is very important never to use acids when cleaning Limestone patios as the acid will react with the stone.
- After treating with MN Outdoor Cleaner we would recommend using an algaecide. Lithofin Algex is an excellent choice, it is free of chlorine and acids and very cost effective. Simply spray onto the surfaces and leave. Lithofin Algex will continue to work for several weeks preventing growth.
- Power Washing: Modern household power washers have become very powerful indeed. Such is the force of these machines there is a risk that the pointing can become damaged or the stone delaminated if the pressure is too high. If you do use these machines we recommend attaching a rotating spray/brush head which will allow you to control the pressure and actively scrub the surface at the same time.
